Lightning Ridge - Gem of the Outback

Lightning Ridge is about 770km Northwest of Sydney and about 750km Southwest of Brisbane. Widely known as the home of the Black Opal, it offers a wide range of attractions and experiences:  Witness Outback Theater with a twist, marvel at underground sculptures, explore the cactus gardens, cool off in the water theme park, go on a mining tour, shop for black opal, go fossicking or visit the nearby opal fields. There's plenty to do in Lightning Ridge so plan to stay at least 4-5 days.

The Chambers of the Black Hand

Ten years in the making, Ron’s carvings include “The African Chamber”; with an elephant, a silverback gorilla, pythons, an orang-utan with attitude and countless other varieties of animals. “The Last Supper” was a challenge, “The Egyptian Room” a bit of a giggle and now, goblins, dinosaurs, an Archangel and Nostradamus emerge eerily from the walls. His most recent carvings are in the new Egyptian Room and are being extended on a daily basis.

The Darling River Run

The Darling River is Australia's longest river and winds its way through some of the most stunning scenery of the NSW outback. Meet the locals, hear their stories, learn about the challenges of the outback, visit national parks, explore the river and its history, marvel at the wildlife and get in touch with the spirit of the outback, while taking the family on a real adventure close to home.
