Great White Sharks in South Africa

Shark cage diving is a popular activity in South Africa and while Sharks are among the most feared animals on the planet, it is actually sharks who need to fear humans, as humans slaughter 100 million sharks per year. The Southern Right Whale comes into the  Bay of Hermanus for breeding and can be seen between July and December. It is the larges of the whales and you may see, touch and hear these magnificent creatures in on a whale watching tour.


Cheetah Mother with 6 Cubs

This footage was taken in the Masai Mara in a private conservancy and shows a cheetah mother with 6 cubs, one of which almost fell prey to a leopard and lion attack but escaped when the lion and the leopard started fighting amongst themselves. Park rangers returned the cub to its mother.

The Selenkay Conservacy lies a few miles north of Amboseli National Park and is an important dispersal area and rangeland for wildlife migrating out of Amboseli.  In May 1997, a Kenyan organisation called Porini Ecotourism agreed with the local Maasai community to set aside the area for a reserve for wildlife, so that the habitat could be protected and wildlife conserved. You may see the Southern Right Whales between June and November in both Hermanus and Gansbaai, along the Garden Route. Shark cage diving can be organised in the Gansbaai region. It only takes about 20-30 minutes to reach the site depending on sea conditions. Small groups of a maximum of 6 people are taken out to sea so as to avoid intrusion on the marine habitat.
